Tom graduated with an MSci in Natural sciences from the university of Cambridge, during which he carried out a research project with Prof. Sir Shankar Balasubramanian investigating epigenetic DNA base modifications. Tom joined the Kawamura group in 2021 on an MoSMed funded PhD studentship in collaboration with Novo Nordisk. The project involved modifications to the mRNA display peptide selection technology, and developing unnatural amino acid incorporation methods, as well as site selective peptide modification conditions.
Tom now continues in the Kawamura group as a postdoctoral researcher after completing his PhD in 2025. He is now involved in numerous projects relating to mRNA display and peptide chemical biology. In his free time, Tom can usually be found fencing, out on his bike, or hiking up the side of a mountain.
