We bid a fond farewell to Dr Hilal Sarac who leaves the group this week for an exciting role as a senior scientist at Cancer Research UK, Target Discoveries Laboratory in the Francis Crick Institute in London. Hilal has been a credit to the group having made great process on the CRUK and ERC grants. She will certainly be missed.
We asked her to reflect on her time in the Kawamura Lab, she said:
I really enjoyed my time both as a visiting PhD student and then as a postdoctoral researcher at Kawamura group in Oxford and in Newcastle. Fortunately, my path crossed with several talented scientists who work in harmony towards understanding epigenetics in a disease setting. In addition to technical skills, some of the most valuable experience that I obtained is how to be a good leader as Akane sets an amazing example. In the supportive and inclusive environment that was provided by Akane and the whole team, we tried to challenge difficult questions while communicating effectively across multiple disciplines. In Newcastle, I have become an expert in using a state-of-art Cell Discoverer 7 microscope to generate beautiful images of stained cells which brings colour to the most challenging days (well, music always helps, too. #DjDrHS). With valuable experience and long-lasting friendships in my pocket, now I will be starting as a senior scientist at Cancer Research UK, Target Discoveries Laboratory in Francis Crick Institute in London.
So long and thanks for the fish!
ps: Keep the music up Siddique
