Tim Bell

Tim joined the Kawamura group in 2021 on a BBSRC funded PhD studentship. Before coming to Newcastle Tim finished his undergraduate degree in biochemistry at the University of York during which he spent a year in industry at the Institute of Cancer Therapeutics using cyclic peptides to target glycosylation events in metastatic cancer. Tim’s PhD focused on the development of peptide tools to study the chemokine network in collaboration with Oxford and Durham Universities.

Having completed his PhD in 2025, Tim is now involved in projects including anti-inflammatory peptide discovery, mRNA display hit selection and computational chemical biology. Outside the lab, Tim can be found playing board games, at an orchestra rehearsal or doing the cryptic crossword.
